Nowadays, smart phone actions cover almost all major areas of life: shopping, maps, banking, and more. T. For many, our phone is the first thing we take in our hands only when we wake up and the last one we look at at bedtime.

What is the future of implantable technologies seen by Lithuanian scientists?

Implanted electronics devices are a reality today. Nothing is surprised by implantable cardiac pacemakers, hearing organ implants, already created electronic brain implants, ”says Darius Viržonis, Professor of Panevėžys Faculty of Technology and Business (Kaunas University of Technology).

However, for less than a decade to get the right knowledge and prepare for the legal regulation, it seems to the scientist today that it is too short for implantable phones to come on the market already in 2025.

“This should create a legal framework, because at this time even such an experiment with a healthy person would not be possible. Viržonis.

In addition, the scientist emphasizes that the human body itself and its nervous system are a challenge because of their individuality, so the link between living cells and artificial electronics should be developed separately for each individual. “Provided it is known how to ensure that such an introduction would not be harmful to the human body,” emphasizes D. Virzonis.

KTU professor recalls that studies have been published in which electronic devices are combined with living organisms (such as insects). Such organisms are called cyber, also known as cyborg.

“It is likely that implantable devices will allow you to communicate thoughts that are usually expressed in words using an integrated smartphone, as well as the ability to understand unspoken thoughts or moods, deciphering brain waves and other signals,” he says. Schwab.

According to D. Viržonis, although there are many prophecies that the boom of electronic technology may end in the degeneration of humanity, it cannot be confirmed or denied until there is sufficient justification for the related knowledge.

“It is very important that issues of ethics, health and human identity are raised in parallel with the evolution of technological and physiological knowledge,” says the scientist, who agrees that the central activity of the brain system will eventually be deciphered and that we will be able to read some ideas of the package with the help of technical measures.
